Ragley Hall Game Fair with debbie&andrew’s Sausages

24th July 2016 by Rosie

The third Ragley Hall Game Fair runs from 29th – 31st July in Alcester, Warwickshire. Here you’ll find a whole weekend of family fun to enjoy with over 900 exhibits including falconry, country crafts, guns, fishing, country fashion, food and drink and which is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors to the event, you’re sure to enjoy an amazing day (or two) out.  Ragley Hall has a long lineage which dates back to 1680 and is one of the Midland’s most magnificent houses with an estate covering an area of 6,500 acres.

This year debbie&andrew’s will be cooking up their tasty wheat, gluten and dairy free sausages where you can sample their newest of recipes from Sweet Chilli or Curried Chicken and Mango sausages to their original 97% Harrogate pork sausages.   You’ll also have the chance to enter competitions and find out about their ‘bangers&cash’ micro sponsorship scheme, offering up to £1,000 to any community fundraisers that bring ‘A Real Taste of the Country’ to life!

The newest sausages in their range: Sweet Chilli has a spicy hint of heat delivered by chipotle chillies and juicy red bell peppers, perfectly balanced with a drop of blossom honey and a sprinkling of demerara sugar, whilst the Curried Chicken and Mango Sausage was the creation of a debbie&andrew’s fan and was selected from over 2,000 entries in the #MakeMySausage challenge to make a sausage from your favourite food.   Clearly the Coronation Chicken based recipe was a clear favourite! A blend of chicken breast, with a slight hint of curry and bits of sweet mango is the perfect combination (and I can personally vouch for it tasting really rather nice, too!)

CCM Flag & Chutney -2

They have a huge range of flavours and products now available, and all their pork is Food Standard Assured ‘Red Tractor’. You can find further details on their site {HERE}.  Their sausages are currently available through Amazon Fresh, Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s and Tesco and are priced between £2.00 and £3.50.

If you can’t get to the show, you don’t have to miss out on the sizzle!  Simply enter my competition to win 1 of 5 sizzling sausage supper kits, worth £25.00.  This includes a recipe book with debbie&andrew’s favourite sausage recipes, a cool bag and free sausage vouchers.  With the recipe book in hand and debbie&andrew’s delicious Perfect Pork, Perfect Cumberland or Harrogate 97% Pork sausages in the fridge, you’re sure to sail through the summer BBQ season!   To enter simply email the answer to the question below, along with your name and delivery address, to dandacompetition@freycob.co.uk by midnight on Friday 29th July 2016.

What do debbie&andrew’s promise?

  1. A Real Taste of the Country
  2. A Real Taste of the Countryside
  3. A Real Taste of a Country Kitchen

Jersey Royals with Minted Lamb Leg Steaks

20th June 2016 by Rosie

My other recipe using Jersey Royal potatoes is more of a traditional one.  For this one, they’re gently boiled and then roasted to perfection, served with Chantenay carrots and deliciously lean New Zealand lamb leg steaks, slowly cooked in a rich Barolo red wine and mint sauce.

Jersey Royals with Asda

  • 1 lemon, zest & juice
  • 1 lamb leg steak per person
  • 10ml Rapeseed oil
  • 2 Red onions, chopped finely
  • 10ml Plain flour
  • 15ml Mint sauce concentrate
  • 250ml Barolo red wine
  • 100ml Vegetable stock
  • Bay leaf
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Rapeseed oil sufficient to roast the potatoes
  • Jersey Royal potatoes
  • Chantenay carrots
  • Broccoli
  1. Zest the lemon and squeeze the lemon juice over the lamb steaks. Toss to coat, cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours to start to tenderise the meat.
  2. Heat the oven to 180℃/160℃ fan.
  3. In a large ovenproof pan (with a lid), heat the oil and fry the onions gently until transparent.
  4. Turn up the heat and fry the lamb leg steaks until browned on both sides. Remove the lamb to a plate to keep warm.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the flour over the onions and oil and mix thoroughly to a paste (no floury lumps).
  6. Slowly add the red wine and vegetable stock, stirring constantly, to prevent lumps forming.
  7. Add the mint sauce concentrate and stir through, then add the bay leaf.
  8. Bring to the boil and reduce to a simmer for 5 minutes until slightly reduced.  Season to taste.
  9. Return the lamb steaks to the pan, stir to coat and then cover with the lid. Place in the oven to cook.
  10. Add the Jersey Royals to a large pan of salted water, bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
  11. Increase the oven temperature to 200℃, and place a roasting dish with oil in to heat up.
  12. Drain the potatoes and gently add these to the hot oil, toss to coat evenly and return to the oven for 30-40 minutes.
  13. Scrub the carrots, then slice them vertically from top to bottom.
  14. Steam the carrots over a pan of boiling water, adding the prepared broccoli florets for the last 10 minutes until both vegetables are cooked to taste.
  15. Serve the roasted Jersey Royals with the vegetables and a lamb leg steak each.

Jersey Royals with Asda

This recipe is cooked in collaboration with Asda and Jersey Royals to highlight the versatility and great flavour of Jersey Royal potatoes.

30th May 2016 by Rosie

The time of year when the Birmingham NEC, sponsored by Lexus, once again hosts this year’s BBC Good Food Show Summer Show 2016 between Thursday 16th and Sunday 19th June from 9am to 6pm each day.

What’s on?

Promising, as always, to be an amazing show where you can see your favourite chefs in the Supertheatre, such as the incredible Tom Kerridge, the fabulous Two Greedy Italians (Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo), the amazing ‘mother and son’ team; Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, the legendary Michel Roux Jr, the fantastic Hairy Bikers (Si King and Dave Myers) as well as the ladies favourite; James Martin.  This year on stage, Mary Berry will be joined by Alan Titchmarsh as they bring plot to plate and create some fantastic seasonal dishes.  Many of the chefs will also be available later to sign their latest books that you can purchase at the show.

On the Good Food Stage, this year sponsored by Lakeland you can watch interview sessions with some of the chefs and cooks from TV as well as watch some delicious recipe demonstrations to inspire you to cook your own creations at home.

I’m hungry; feed me!

If you’re hungry, you’ll find a myriad of food stalls and vendors at the Show, as well as having the opportunity to dine at the BBC Good Food Kitchen where you can enjoy a tasty 2 or 3 course meal (but you’ll have to book in advance for this as it gets incredibly busy); otherwise just follow your nose and your rumbling tummy and find you’ll be sure to find something for every appetite and taste preference.

Teach me something new!

New this year to the Show are the Discover and Learn Sessions where you can learn Cupcake Decorating, participate in a Sushi Masterclass or take part in a Five Senses Tasting Experience.

If you fancy learning how to pair chocolate with wine, then be sure to visit and take part in a Lindt Excellence Chocolate and Wine Masterclass Experience.

Once again the BBC Good Food Show shares the arena with the BBC Gardners’ World Live Show and your ticket will give you free access to enjoy and discover the delights of the garden too.

What can I buy? I want to go shopping!

You can find some of the very best in the BBC Good Food Champions area, where you’ll discover a fabulous selection of producers that you can sample and buy from and find out more about their story too.

The Producers’ Village is a huge speciality food market at the heart of the Show, packed with small artisan producers who pride themselves on the quality and provenance of their produce. Here you can try before you buy with some of the freshest seasonal foods, many of which you won’t find on your local high street.

Discover healthy food products and new ideas to help you create delicious, nutritious dishes.  Brought together are a selection of healthy food producers in the Eat Well Pavilion.

The Ludlow Producer Market section of the Show brings together a fantastic collection of producers from Ludlow and the Marches. With an emphasis on local, independent food and drink producers this is a great area to pick up some interesting products that you won’t find in the supermarkets.

It’s not just confined to food either; you can buy amazing kitchen equipment, gadgets and gizmos; knives and chopping boards; bowls and spoons. Infact; if you need it in the kitchen, you can buy it at the show!

There’ll also be loads of competitions around the show to enter.  Go on; you never know if the day you visit is going to be your lucky day!

Who’s going to be there?

Well, if you want to see a list of the exhibitors, then that’s easy!  Just follow this link to see if your favourite will be there.  There are certainly lots of mine going to be there! Many of whom I’ve enjoyed meeting for several years now and who’s products I’ve grown to love, eat, drink and use daily in my family life!

I can’t wait to go, but sadly, as I’m having a knee operation on Friday 17th June, I’ll only be able to make it one day this year and so won’t be able to go back at the weekend, so I’m really going to make the most of my visit on Thursday 16th.  Will you join me?  I do hope so!

Rosie
